RESIDENT OPHTHALMOLOGIST
Dr. Gan Chee Chong obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur in the year 2005. He developed a strong interest in ophthalmology during his undergraduate years. He started his career as a house officer in Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah, Muar in the same year. After that, he was offered as the first ophthalmology medical officer in Hospital Sultan Ismail, Johor Bahru from February 2007.
Dr. Gan did his post graduate training under the Ophthalmology Department in Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru and University of Malaya from the year 2009 to 2013. He was awarded Excellent Performance Award from Johore Health Care Services in 2011 and Master in Ophthalmology from University of Malaya in 2013.
After graduation, Dr. Gan preferred to practice in Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru, which is a tertiary hospital with multiple subspecialties, had provided him with a wonderful environment to manage complex cases. He was talented in various type surgeries, including advanced cataract surgery with premium intraocular lens implantation, pterygium excision with conjunctival autograft and glaucoma surgery. He also had various exposure to diabetic retinopathy and retinal diseases.
Dr. Gan completed his certificate in Good Clinical Practice in 2015. He was enthusiastically involved in training the junior specialists and master students. He was proactively participating in World Glaucoma Day and department management including Lean Health Care for Department of Ophthalmology Project. He was also invited as speaker to give talks in workshops and state conferences. Besides, he is a reviewer for International Journal of Ophthalmology. He is constantly participating in local and international conferences and scientific meetings.
